Data Cabling Canberra
Data Cabling for Canberra Homes and Offices
What Data Cabling Can Do for Your Home
Data cabling is not just about getting internet to your desk. A structured cabling system can support CCTV camera networks, HDMI distribution from a central media hub, smart home controllers, network-attached storage (NAS) drives, and IP-based intercom systems. By running cable now, you future-proof your home for technology that has not even hit the market yet.
We also relocate and extend existing data points, install additional ports in rooms that were not cabled during construction, and replace old Cat5 runs with Cat6 to support faster network speeds.

What Our Canberra Customers Say
Over 128 Google reviews from locals who trusted Clark Electrical with their home’s electrical and cabling needs.
Aaron and Ben from Clarke Electrical were absolutely fantastic! They arrived on time, explained everything clearly, and completed the job efficiently with great attention to detail. They also reassured me that if anything comes up during the warranty period, Clarke Electrical will provide full support, which gives me great peace of mind. Professional, friendly, and reliable, highly recommend their services!
Clark Electrical were amazing!!! Aaron and Ben were fantastic and friendly. They were quick and efficient. Peta went above and beyond with her cutomer service and kept me updated at all times. If you are looking for quick and efficient service- contact Clark Electrical.
I had an incredible experience with Clark Electrical. I made a mistake with the measurement of my appliance, but they willingly returned to reinstall it without any additional charges. Phoenix, in particular, was exceptionally swift and friendly in our communication.
I wholeheartedly recommend these individuals without hesitation. They exceeded my expectations in every way. In fact, there’s no need to waste your time searching for another electrician, as their pricing is also very reasonable.
Friendly and easygoing, well versed in what they do, quoted a few good airconditioning solutions well under budget, they had the ducted system installed, up and running in a day and were really accommodating on incidental work (Yay! Network!). They made the whole process super easy and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Massive thanks to Aaron, Phoenix + team.
We contacted Clark Electrical and were immediately impressed with your friendly approach (thanks Maria) and excellent communication backed by a great quote for the work required. We booked a date and time and the Aiden and Guy picked up the items, delivered them and with some help from Aaron, professionally installed them providing excellent service and great workmanship, topped with excellent value for money. We will be recommending your business at every opportunity.
Great communication and very friendly all round from my initial call to the end of the job. A dodgy cheap double adaptor exploded (causing a very impressive bang, complete with light show), taking out my power. I called, and received same day service. Lawrence arrived at the arranged time, was super helpful, very friendly, answered all my silly questions and fixed my power outage quickly. I have a fair bit of electrical work needed around the house (lights, additional outlets, ceiling fan installation etc), and will definitely be using this company to do that work. I have no hesitation in recommending them. Thanks so much team!
It is far easier and cheaper to run cable during construction than to retrofit it later. Talk to us early and save yourself the hassle.
Data Cabling FAQs
Common questions about data cabling in Canberra homes. Call 1300 230 462 for anything not answered below.
What is the difference between Cat5, Cat6, and Cat6A?
Cat5e supports speeds up to 1 Gbps over shorter distances. Cat6 supports 1 Gbps reliably up to 55 metres and can handle 10 Gbps over shorter runs. Cat6A supports 10 Gbps over the full 100-metre distance. We install Cat6 as standard and recommend Cat6A for future-proofing.
How many data points do I need?
It depends on your usage. At minimum, we recommend a data point at each home office workstation, your main entertainment area, and wherever you plan to place a WiFi access point. For larger homes, additional points in bedrooms and living areas give you maximum flexibility.
Can you run data cable through an existing home?
Yes. We run cable through wall cavities, ceiling spaces, and under floors in existing homes. In most cases, we can conceal the cable completely with minimal or no damage to walls or ceilings.
Will data cabling improve my WiFi?
Indirectly, yes. By connecting your WiFi router or access points to hardwired data points in central locations, you can achieve far better wireless coverage throughout your home. This is significantly more effective than relying on a single router in one corner of the house.
Do you install patch panels?
Yes. For homes with multiple data points, we install a central patch panel that keeps all your cable runs organised and makes it easy to manage your network. This is the same approach used in commercial installations, scaled down for residential use.
How long does a data cabling installation take?
A single data point typically takes one to two hours including running the cable, mounting the wall plate, and testing. A multi-point installation across a whole home usually takes half a day to a full day depending on the number of points and accessibility.
